Does the power button on the front of the unit only turn it off or can it turn it on? I am borrowing a dsm320 off a friend and I don't have the remote yet. I tried to turn it on but the front power button doesn't do anything. I was thinking that only the remote would power it on. Thanks.

It does both. Perhaps you need to hold it down a bit longer.
